Is there a library cafe in PJ?

Short answer: MeTime Book Cafe, Level 1, The Square, Jaya One, Section 13, Petaling Jaya. Open 11am to 8pm, every day.

It is not a public library. Nobody stamps your card and there is no due date. But if you searched for a "library cafe" or a "cafe library near me", it is probably close to what you had in mind.

What you are probably looking for

The feeling of a library. Books on the walls, people reading, nobody talking over you.

Plus the parts a library does not give you. A cup of tea. A seat you can keep for the afternoon. No one checking the time.

And not a normal cafe either. In a cafe the books are decoration, the music is loud, and after one drink you start to feel you should order again or go.

What is here

Shelves of books. Pick one up, sit down, read it here. Take your time with it.

An open area and the lawn. Tables near the shelves, for when you want people around you but not with you. Tea from the counter. A cat called Ichy wanders through. He does not ask questions.

Three rooms with doors. Booked by the hour. Close the door and keep reading, or get the laptop out. The lights and the air-con are yours to set.

Bunkers. Smaller, tucked into a corner, for one person. Good when you do not need a whole room, just a corner of your own.

When people come here

  • A weekend afternoon with a book you keep starting and never finishing.
  • Between meetings around Jaya One, with an hour to fill.
  • Revision or reading for class, somewhere that is not the dining table at home.
  • Meeting a friend who also just wants to sit and read.

Library or cafe? A bit of both

A few honest differences, so you know what to expect.

  • You can talk here. Quietly, in the open area. If you need real quiet, take a room or a Bunker and close the door.
  • You can drink here. Tea from the counter. No need to sneak a bottle past anyone.
  • Nobody rushes you out. Rooms are booked by the hour, and the hour is yours. No one hovers at the table waiting for it.
  • The books stay here. They are for reading on the spot, not for borrowing home.
  • It closes at 8pm. Plan the long chapters for the afternoon.

What we do not do

We do not ask why you came. Once you are in a room, we do not come knocking. How you use the time is up to you.
